Bio
James Dupree was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his BFA from Ohio's Columbus College of Art and Design and obtained an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. A master of many techniques and processes as a painter-printmaker, James is interested in both pure abstraction and figurative abstraction. His work reflects intense energy, and a strong sense of space and movement rendered in sophisticated contrasts and nuances of luminous color.
His one-person exhibitions include the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Philadelphia); the Whales National Museum Cardiff (Great Britain); and the Indiana State College Museum (Pennsylvania). His art is represented in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philadelphia), Columbus Museum of Fine Art (Ohio), Copenhagen Municipal Foundation (Denmark), and the California African American Museum (Los Angeles), among others.
