Bio
James Brantley has studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia College of Art. His work is included in the collections of Philadelphia Museum of Art, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, African American Museum, Federal Reserve Bank and ARCO Chemical Company, PA; among numerous private collections. His solo exhibitions include work in UFA Gallery, NYC; Sande Webster Gallery, Suzanne Gross Gallery and Painted Bride Art Center, Phila. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, National Academy of Design, NY, African American Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Nexus Foundation for Today's Art, Phila.; and Fundacao Gregorio e Mattos, Brazil. Mr. Brantley is the recipient of the Caroline Gibbons Granger Award for Painting and the Francis Bergman Portrait Prize, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Hallgarten Prize, National Academy of Design; and has been a resident artist at Brandywine Workshop and Museum.
